Granolithography (or granite lithography) is a printing technique similar to traditional lithography, but instead of using a smooth limestone plate, the artist prints from a granite or specially textured stone surface.
This gives the print a grainy, tactile texture and more depth than standard lithographs.
It’s often valued for its unique surface pattern and fine tonal variations, making each print visually rich and slightly distinct.
Stone-signed means the artist signed the lithographic stone or plate before printing.
As a result, the signature is part of the printed image itself, not added by hand afterward.
This differs from hand-signed, where the artist signs each individual print after it’s made.
Stone-signing was common for larger edition art prints, especially in the mid–20th century.
